Islam masuk ke Belitung ternyata tidak hanya lewat penyebaran agama belaka, namun upaya penyebarannya disertai dengan pembangunan rumah ibadah.

Buktinya,pembangunan masjid pertama berada di wilayah kecamatan membalong yang terletak di ujung selatan Pulau Belitong. Dan pembangunan masjid ini merupakan sebagai saksi dari keberadaan sebuah Islam di Belitung.

Berdasarkan buku museum unit PT Timah menyebut kan masjid yang pertama di bangun berada di Kaki gunung Parang Bulu (kawasan Balai Hulu).

Tentu saja dari masjid inilah digunakan sebagai tempat untuk melakukan dakwah ke pelosok daerah di seluruh wilayah Belitung maupun Belitung Timur.

Secara sekilas Membalong kini hampir seluruhnya warga beragama Islam. Penduduknya masih nominasi pertanian dan perkebunan. Ribuan warga masih bertanam lada dan jenis tanaman lainnya. Wajar bila saat ini membalong ditempatkan sebagai kawasan argopolitan
