Terus terang saya merasa tersedak ketika minum air tatkala membaca sebuah berita online Bangka mengenai pengakuan Ketua DPRD Babel yang merasa dibodohi oleh media. Pada galibnya, manalah mungkin itu terjadi. Tapi beliau memandangnya lain.
Berita ini keluhan Pak Ketua ini hampir muncul di semua media di Bangka Belitung. “Bosan berkali-kali merasa dibodohi media massa,” ujar Ketua Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel), Ismiryadi seperti diberitakan oleh berbagai media. Dia juga menyatakan sikap keberatannya kepada sejumlah wartawan atas seringnya pemotongan isi berita.
“Untuk saat ini saya menolak untuk diwawancara oleh media massa. Karena setiap saya menyampaikan informasi ternyata tidak selalu diterbitkan oleh media itu, jadi tidak fair dong. Maka dari itu, saya ingin mengadakan audiensi dengan para pimpinan redaksi. Apa kekurangan saya? Saya Ketua DPRD Babel, jangan sampai media dapat membodohi saya,” tegas Dodot, panggilan akrab Pak Ketua, kepada wartawan.
Pak Dodot, malah menuding awak pers tak memahami UU Informasi, karena main potong beritanya. “Seharusnya baik dan buruk informasi yang telah saya sampaikan sebelumnya melalui para wartawan yang bertugas wajib untuk dimuat oleh media yang terkait. Sedangkan ini tidak. Hanya berita-berita ringan saja yang dimuat,” pungkasnya seperti diberitakan media di Bangka Belitung.
Pak Dodot lupa bahwa para redaktur surat kabar itu, tak sembarangan memuat berita hasil kerja keras para reporternya. Hanya berita yang punya news-value yang diaccnya untuk naik cetak atau diturunkan. Kalau dia melihat berita yang ringan-ringan saja, itu karena yang ringan-ringan itulah yang punya nilai berita di mata redaktur.
Pak Dodot malah sempat ngambek, seperti diberitakan, tak mau memberikan wawancara kepada wartawan. Ini lebih fatal, itu artinya Pak Dodot telah memblackout dirinya sendiri. Kalau sampai wartawan tak memberikan tempat kepada Pak Dodot, itu lebih membahayakan.
Sebagai seorang wartawan yang pernah jadi redaktur, kita tahu betul berita apa saja yang layak naik di media tempat kita bekerja. Boleh jadi dalam kasus ini, Pak Dodot bicara berapi-api mengenai politik kepada wartawan ekonomi, jelas tidak nyambung. Atau dia bicara bagus sekali mengenai sepakbola kepada wartawan kiriminal dan pasti tidak nyambung.
Tapi yang pasti wartawan yang diposkan (beat reporter) di DPRD tentulah wartawan politik, yang pengetahuannya mengenai dunia di parlemen daerah di atas wartawan lainnya.
Perlu dicatat semua wartawan itu haus berita, apalagi sudah dipasang target oleh redakturnya. Siapa saja mereka buru, termasuk ketua DPRD, untuk mendapat berita. Tapi jangan heran, yang keluar di koran, boleh jadi berita mengenai keluhan petugas cleaning service yang tak juga diangkat jadi PNS, ketimbang penjelasan pak ketua DPRD yang menjelaskan pelantikan gubernur.
Jadi kepada siapapun, termasuk Pak Dodot, sebelum memberikan wawancara kenali dulu wartawan yang mewawancarai, berita apa yang menarik baginya. Itu saja yang jadi topik wawancara, kalau tidak, bisa jadi yang ringan-ringan saja yang keluar.
Wartawan sekarang sudah pintar-pintar, apalagi rata-rata pendidikan mereka sudah S-1. Harus diingat, beda menghadapi wartawan dalam melakukan wawancara satu-satu dengan wawancara berjemaah. Setiap wartawan akan mengambil angel yang berbeda sesuai visi dan misi medianya.
Kalau Pak Dodot sudah berusaha bicara yang serius-serius demi kepentingan daerah, tapi yang keluar tetap yang ringan-ringan, tentu ini ada yang slek. Apalagi kalau dikaitkan dengan jabatan Pak Dodot sebagai ketua wakil rakyat. Kalau Pak Dodot kurang piawai, dalam melakukan wawancara beliau bisa didampingi humas DPRD, sehingga bisa meluruskan yang salah ucap. Tapi kalau itu masih juga terjadi, perlu dipertanyakan ada apa dengan wartawannya.
Saya tak meragukan kemampuan wartawan yang ditugaskan di DPRD. Pasti mereka adalah orang pilihan. Meski begitu mereka harus terus diberikan “pengayaan kemampuan”. Artinya DPRD Babel jangan pelit keluarkan sedikit dana untuk ‘workshop wartawan’ melakukan pelatihan maupun press tour ke daerah lain sebagai bandingan. Gunanya, agar jangan berita yang ringan dari Pak Dodot saja yang muncul di media. Padahal omongannya pasti cukup berbobot tapi di mata redaktur ‘news value’nya zero.
Demikian pula kalau reses atau kunjugan DPRD ke daerah, jangan lupa ajak wartawan, tak semuanya lah. Ajak secara bergiliran. Wartawan makin paham apa kerja anggota DRDP di dalam dan di luar ruang sidang.
Jadi, jangan salahkan wartawan Pak Dodot. Kalau Pak Dodot melihat wartawan kita masih payah, itu tanggungjawab kita bersama. Asal tahu saja, kenapa Negeri Cina maju seperti sekarang, itu tidak lepas dari kerja wartawannya yang sanggup menulis berita yang memacu dan memicu pejabat dan rakyat Cina maju ekonominya mengejar ketinggalannya dari negara maju. Kenapa wartawan kita tidak? Kalau bisa, Bangka Belitung, akan menjadi provinsi termaju di Indonesia.
