Ini bukan kejadian di Belitung, tapi di negara adikuasa Amerika Serikat. Desmond Hatchett, asal Knoxville, Tennessee, masih terbilang muda karena usianya baru 33, tapi dia sudah menjadi ayah dari 33 orang bocah yang lahir dari 11 rahim perempuan yang berbeda. Boleh jadi dia tak berfikir ketika bikin anaknya bahwa punya anak itu berat menafkahinya. Alih-alih banyak anak banyak rejeki, tapi banyak anak makin sengsara.

Betul saja, dia kini sedang minta pengadilan agar dia dibebaskan dari membayar tunjangan atas anak-anak biologisnya itu. Berita yang rada-rada aneh ini mulanya cuma muncul di koran-koran dan televisi negara bagian, tapi akhirnya mendunia juga.
Soalnya selama ini duit yang diterimanya langsung dipotong oleh negara tiap bulan untuk dibagikan kepada anak-anaknya itu.

Kebetulan si Hatchett bukan orang kaya raya, dia termasuk penerima upah minimum, tak heran kalau pera isterinya itu cuma kebagian cuma cuma $1.49 (sekitar Rp 14.000 per bulan.

Anaknya yang tertua kini sudah berumur 14 tahun.

Aturan potong gaji separuh oleh negara itu memang dibenarkan menurut hukum bagi orangtua yang menelantarkan anak-anaknya.

Tunjangan anak ini besarnya berbeda sesuai dengan umur dan tingkat kebutuhan.

Desmond menjelaskan kepada jaringan televisi berita News Channel 3, sempat buka-bukaan. Katanya: “Aku sempat punya anak dalam tahun yang sama. Bahkan itu terjadi dua kali.”

Tapi untunglah dia bukan jenis orang pelupa. Dia ingat dan kenal semua anak-anaknya dan ibu-ibu mereka, serta tanggal lahirnya satu per satu.

Dia pertama diadukan ke pengadilan tahun 2009. Isteri-isterinya itu mengadu mereka tidak mendapat tunjangan anak yang cukup dari Hatchett. Waktu itu dia sudah punya 21 anak.

Di depan hakim dia mengaku tidak akan nambah anak lagi, tapi kenyataannya tanpa banyak cakap anaknya bertambah sembilan lagi tiga tahun kemudian.

Dikatakannya: “Saya tak bermaksud punya anak sebanyak ini, tapi kenyataannya begini.”

Negara bagian tidak bisa melarang Hatchett berhenti bikin anak. Karena itu melawan hukum dan bertentangan dengan HAM. Selain itu pria ini dinilai tak pernah melawan hukum. Malah dia jadi terkenal di seluruh negara bagian sebagai pria dengan bini dan anak terbanyak.
