Tidak hanya Belanda yang sempat menjadikan daerah jajahannya di Pulau Belitung. Tanggal 17 Mei 1812 pulau Belitung resmi menjadi jajahan Inggris. Meski menjadi jajahannya tidak pernah berada di Belitung. Guna menjalankan roda pemerintahan, residen Inggris di Bangka, Mayor Gourt mengangkat Raja Akil dari Siak sebagai kepala pulau Belitung.
Hal itu tertulis dalam sebuah buku sejarah Bangka Belitung yang ditulis Husnial Husin Abdullah.
Meski resmi dijajah Inggris tentunya tak berlangsung lama. Sebab, berdasarkan traktat London tanggal 13 Agustus 1814 Inggris mengatur pengembalian sebagian besar koloni koloninya keoada Belanda, tetapi Pulau Belitung tidak diserahkannya. Menurut Inggris, bahwa Bangka dan Belitung tidak pernah menjadi koloni kerajaan Belanda.
Setelah melalui percekcokan yang sengit, barulah tercapai persetujuan tentang penyerahan pulau Belitung diserahkan kepada Belanda.
